Biography

Hillegonda "Gonnie" Rietveld was a founding member of Quando Quango alongside Mike Pickering and her brother Reinier. Gonnie did programming rhythms, bass lines, chords and hooklines for the band. Gonnie moonlighted at FAC 51 The Hacienda where she eventualy became backstage manager. Mike Pickering of course was also Factory Records' A&R man and Hacienda DJ. Later, when the Haç put on less bands and Quando had finished Gonnie left to embark upon her academic career. She returned later herself in a DJ-ing capacity when she 'opened' the new extension in the basement. Her connection with the Hacienda continued when she researched and co-edited the book FAC 351 The Hacienda Must Be Built which was edited by Jon Savage. Gonnie completed her PhD on house music in 1995 and is currently Senior Lecturer in Arts and Media at South Bank University.
